  • Case Study: Special Procedures – Mission Support and Implementation (UNCT Ecuador) (+)

    Following Ecuador’s open invitation to all special procedures in 2003, the Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, Leandro Despouy (March, July & November 2005), and the Special Rapporteur on Indigenous Peoples, Rodolfo Stavenhagen (April to May 2006) have visited the country. The context of each visit was different: while Mr. Despouy’s visit was requested urgently by took place in the context of civil society’s calls for an urgent visit when the National Congress dismissed the Supreme Court of Justice and other courts in late 2004, the present government played a key role in initiating Mr. Stavenhagen’s visit.
